The event will include an attempt to count the stars within the constellation of Orion, coinciding with CPRE’s Star Count, which involves people from across the country counting the number of stars they can see within the constellation on a clear night between 21 – 28 February. The results will help to map a view of the night sky, showing where the deep, dark skies are in the country, and where light pollution is most serious.

The aim will be to carry out a star count at approximately 8pm, when Orion is due South, Venus will be the brightest spot in the sky, and the Milky Way will be directly overhead. If it is cloudy, this may need to happen later in the evening when it is clear.

Two telescopes will be available on the night: one focused on Venus and then Uranus, and the other focused on the Orion Nebula and other deep sky objects.

Designated in 2017 by the International Dark Sky Association, Siblyback Lake on Bodmin Moor is an International Dark Sky Landscape, offering a fantastic opportunity to see and learn more about the magnificent Bodmin Moor Dark Skies.
