The Pilgrim Cello – St Germans Priory
16 June @ 7:30 pm
Free
All 42 English cathedrals. 2,000 miles. With a cello. On a bike.
Cumbrian cellist and poet Kenneth Wilson, 66, is known for his mad projects but perhaps this one – Pilgrim Cello – is the maddest of all. Starting on 18 May, Kenneth will cycle, with his cello, 2,000 miles around all 42 of the English Anglican Cathedrals. As an ex-Cathedral, St Germans Priory is honoured to be one of the stops on Kenneth’s musical pilgrimage ‘Pilgrim Cello’ – an extraordinary journey combining poetry, music, and pilgrimage.
With his cello carried on the front of a specially adapted bike, it’s not just a bike ride, it’s a pilgrimage in the ancient tradition, and a concert tour bringing a powerful reflection to each sacred space. Kenneth will be giving a performance of a specially written Meditation, which consists of a series of reflective poems interwoven with movements from the Bach Suites for Solo Cello, followed by a short talk about his pilgrimage and his previous projects.
Join us on Monday 16th June at 7.30 pm at St Germans Priory. The performance will last approx 1h 15mins with no interval.
Free Entry, donations on the night. Our bar will be serving all evening.
