An Exhibition of Robby Bullen Cartoons – Stuart House
May 22
Event Navigation

There will be an Exhibition of Robby Bullen Cartoons at Stuart House from Thursday 22nd May – Saturday 24th May.
Past Chair of Stuart House John Batey writes:
I first came across Robby way back in the mid 1960s when he was a student at St. Austell Grammar School… and I was starting my first teaching job.
Many years later we renewed the contact, became Facebook friends, and having become aware of his skill as a cartoonist, I asked him to illustrate my book ‘A Breath of Country Air’… which he did with great skill and humour!
Robby writes…
‘I first became interested in cartoons as a young boy through comics like Beano and Dandy. In my 20s I decided to have a go myself… and see if I could sell any, and enjoyed some success. In the 1970s I had sporadic sales to the Sun newspaper… and also to the Daily Mirror and The Star. I then tried my hand at getting regular spots with local papers… and was successful with the Sunday Independent based in Plymouth. I then found success with The Western Morning News, and had a regular strip published in the Plymouth Evening Herald.
I had had a lifelong ambition to have a cartoon published in the satirical magazine Private Eye… and eventually succeeded in 2016… and have been a regular contributor ever since.
I’m probably best known for my online Plymouth Argyle cartoons, that are well received!
I estimate that I have drawn about 25,000 cartoons over the years… of which probably 95% have been rejected. Don’t be a cartoonist if you can’t handle rejection!’
Stuart House is open from –
