High Wood Summer Fair

The annual open day at High Wood highlighting the work done to restore the ancient woodland promises to be an exciting day out for all the family. Come and learn about nature or the history of High Wood, have your face painted like a woodland creature, see the ponies and owls, sample a free Qigong session (it’s a bit like Tai Chi) or go on your own scavenger hunt. And yes, there will be toilets!
Sunday 22nd June, 11am-4pm – FREE entry
- Guided History Walk with Brian Oldham, President of Liskeard Old Cornwall Society and author of 2 books about Liskeard at 1:40
- Guided Nature Walk with our Ecologist at 11:30
- Sample Qigong session with Ninja Granny at 1:00
- Hugs Foundation – Horse rescue centre including two ponies
- Screech Owl and Animal Sanctuary
- Enjoy a bacon bap or similar from Cornish Maids Kitchen or Coffee and Cake from How’ve You Bean (Vegetarian and vegan options available from both)
- Demonstrations by woodworkers and eco-crafts people including Kernow Retail and the Association of Pole-lathe Turners and Green Woodworkers
- Have a try at willow weaving at drop-in sessions (price per item) from 11:00 to 1:30 or book a 2hr session from 2:00 – 4:00 to make a willow swallow (bookable on Eventbrite very soon)
- Face painting – Alice’s Faces in Wonderland
- Marshmallow toasting 12:30 to 2:00

If you’re on a tight budget, entry and lots of activities are FREE, including the walks, Qigong, scavenger hunts, children’s games and colourings. There will be some fundraising from ourselves towards the cost of maintaining this woodland for the environment and the benefit of local people. Other charities will also have fundraising activities and cash would be appreciated at some stalls. Most can accept card payment.
This is a woodland with uneven and sloping paths in places, so please wear suitable footwear.
Please walk or cycle if you can as parking is extremely limited.
