Calstock Arts- Charles Causley film + Q&A with director Jane Darke
November 25, 2016 @ 7:00 pm| £6 adult, £4 under 16 and unwaged, £16 family (2+2) No discount for Friends of Calstock Arts
Jane Darke’s fourth film celebrates the much loved Cornish poet Charles Causley, celebrated for his genius worldwide, but drawing inspiration from his home in Cornwall.
Admired by contemporaries John Betjeman, Ted Hughes and Roger McGough, Causley’s work frequently embraced his local area, as well as broader Cornwall and its plentiful legends. But he also told tales of working people and the conflicts they experienced in an often tough world.
The film features many of his best poems, some set to music by his distant relative Jim Causley on the album Cyprus Well. There is archive footage of Causley and interviews with poets Simon Armitage, Roger McGough and Andrew Motion.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with painter, writer and film maker Jane Darke. Jane lives on the north coast of Cornwall, from where she draws her inspiration.
