Liskeard Arts Talk – A Potted History of England — the Story of British Pottery over 6,000 Years

October 8 @ 7:00 pm

| £8

A Potted History of England — the Story of British Pottery over 6,000 Years, a talk by Julian Richards. Liskeard Public Hall, Tuesday 8th October. The hall is open from 7pm for refreshments –  coffee/tea, biscuits and wine – and conversation. The talk starts at 7.30 pm. Non-members are welcome to come along, admission is £8 per person (this will be deducted from your annual sub if you choose to join us on the day)

The first pots appeared in Britain about 6,000 years ago, and this talk will chart the ways in which ceramic production has evolved from that time to the present day.
From the hand-formed and bonfire-fired pots of our prehistoric ancestors to the products of both modern industry and individual craft potters, this talk will examine the major changes that have shaped the ways pots are produced and distributed.. This is a genuinely a ‘potted history’ !

Liskeard Arts Society is a member society of The Arts Society (https://theartssociety.org/). It was formed to bring together people who are curious about and interested in human artistic achievement in the world about us. So we give a series of beautifully illustrated lectures, and arrange visits to museums, galleries, houses and gardens, allowing you to increase and broaden your knowledge of art in the widest sense of the word, in the company of other like-minded people; our meetings are characterised by plenty of animated conversation.

Our annual programme includes nine monthly lectures and two Discovery Days on a wide range of subjects by Arts Society lecturers, all experts in their field. We also organise day visits and longer tours to places of artistic interest.

Most of our members come from South East and East Cornwall; members from other areas are always welcome to join us.
