Tours of The Guildhall

September 9, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

| Free

As part of Liskeard Unlocked The Guildhall will be open for guided tours on Saturday 9th September from 2pm to 4pm.

The Grade 2* Guildhall was constructed in 1858 and consists of a ‘loggia’ the ground floor occupied by local shops and a hall, office, and balcony on the first floor formerly used as Council Offices and Magistrates Court.

A ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the historic Guildhall designed by local firm of Reeves & Butcher in the Italianate style, built in ashlar stone and was completed in 1868.  The design included a ‘loggia’ style ground floor and a clock tower.  The clock was a gift (together with the two quarter bells) from the Mayor, John Clark Isaac, in 1868.  The building was used for civic events and served as the Council Chamber and later as a Magistrates Court until the magistrates moved to new premises in the 1980s.  The building was converted for commercial use and has not been open to the general public for several decades.
